Create your free listing

Takes 2 minutes. Your listing looks after itself — we update your stock automatically. Add your feed URL to unlock full photos and complete specs.

To verify ownership we need either a business email ending in your website domain (e.g. @jjmotors.co.uk), your stock feed URL, or both. Gmail alone is not enough. We strongly recommend adding your feed — it unlocks full photos, complete specs and keeps your listing accurate automatically.
Helps verify your domain email and shows buyers where to find you.
Use your business domain email to verify instantly. Gmail is fine if you also add your feed URL below.

Stock feed
Your feed gives buyers the full picture — all photos, exact specs, mileage and options. Listings without a feed show basic details only. Your feed is also your backup: if your website ever changes, your stock stays live on Local Car Sales regardless. Ask your DMS provider (AutoTrader, Motors, Dealer Management Solutions etc.) for your XML or CSV feed URL.

Where can a UK dealer list cars for free?

The honest version, including where we are not the right answer.

You do not list cars here. You list your dealership.

There is no upload form and no stock to maintain. Claim the listing we already hold for your dealership, or add it if we have not found you yet, and we index the cars from your own website. They appear here automatically and update themselves when your site changes. Sell a car, it drops off. Add one, it turns up. No cap, no per-car fee, nothing to keep in sync.

Where Cost to a dealer Who the buyer ends up talking to
Local Car Sales Free. No contract, no commission, no per-car fee You, on your own website
Facebook Marketplace Free You, but inside Facebook, alongside private sellers
Gumtree Free or paid tiers for traders — check current pricing You, inside their platform
eBay Motors Pro Paid — check current pricing You, inside their platform
Auto Trader Paid, by contracted stock level You, via their lead system
PistonTraders Free to be listed You, on your own website

Where we are not the right answer

If you need volume of buyers today, Auto Trader reaches far more people than we do and we would not pretend otherwise. If you sell mainly to private buyers browsing casually, Facebook Marketplace will out-reach us. And PistonTraders indexes dealer stock the same way we do, currently at larger scale. We are free, so there is no reason to choose between us — but if you are only going to be in one place, it should not be us yet.

What each level actually gets you

Being listed is free and always will be. These are the differences if you decide you want more than that — what each level gets, not what it earns you. We do not publish claims about sales.

Anyone is welcome to ring 0800 6444 199 with a question, whether you pay us anything or not — it is hands-on help with your own listing and stock feed that comes with the paid tiers. Facebook placement is priority in a queue, not a guarantee — one car per page per day, and the car needs a usable photograph. Ranking and posting order are set in code, not by hand: CarDealerCMS dealers first, then £19 members, then claimed, then the rest.

Questions dealers actually ask

Where can a UK car dealer get their cars listed for free?

Local Car Sales works differently from a classifieds site: you do not upload cars. We index the stock already on your own dealership website, so once your dealership is listed your cars appear automatically and update themselves as your website changes. There is nothing to upload and nothing to keep in sync. It is free, with no contract, no commission and no per-car fee. Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree allow free or low-cost listings but are built around private sellers and you post each car yourself. eBay Motors Pro, Auto Trader and most trade portals charge per listing or by subscription — check their current pricing directly.

Is it really free, and is there a limit on how many cars I can have?

Being listed is genuinely free and stays free, and there is no cap on how many cars you can have listed — your whole forecourt shows, whether you pay us anything or not. Most dealers on the site pay nothing at all. Two optional paid things exist: Local Car Sales membership at £19 a month, which ranks you above unverified dealers and puts your cars higher in the queue for our Facebook pages; and CarDealerCMS at £79 a month, a full dealer website which includes the £19 membership. Neither is required.

How is this different from Facebook Marketplace, eBay or Gumtree?

Those are general marketplaces where dealers compete with private sellers, and buyers message inside the platform. Local Car Sales is dealer-only and it does not hold the buyer: every car links straight through to the dealer's own website, so the enquiry is yours. It is an index of dealer stock rather than a place to transact.

Do I have to leave Auto Trader to use it?

No, and we would not suggest it. Auto Trader is far larger and reaches buyers we do not. Treat Local Car Sales as free additional exposure that runs alongside whatever you already pay for, not a replacement for it.

What do I actually get for £19 a month?

Priority placement above every unverified dealer, a verified badge, no listing cap, your cars ahead of unverified listings in the queue for our Facebook pages, and a monthly report of how many buyers we sent you. It is month to month with no contract.

Who runs Local Car Sales?

Website Designer Derby, a sole trader business owned by Peter Hallford, at 47 Western Drive, Heanor, Derbyshire, DE75 7DP. Telephone 0800 6444 199. The same business runs CarDealerCMS. Local Car Sales is not a car dealer, a finance broker or a motor trade professional, and is not connected to any similarly named motor trade company elsewhere in the UK.

How do buyers get in touch with me?

They click through to your own website and contact you there. We do not sit in the middle, we do not take a commission, and we do not sell your enquiries to anyone.

What kind of dealers are on it?

Small independents. The median forecourt listed has 17 cars, 96% of listed dealers hold 100 cars or fewer, and three quarters of the stock comes from those smaller dealers. It is not car supermarkets or franchise groups — that is what the name describes.
